Ewwwwey Glloooooey Glooooopy

Today the ingredients were out for the children to make gloop. Simply made from three ingredients, 2 parts cornflour, one part water and paint to colour. Boom the fun was about to begin...

They enjoyed mixing, swirling, squishing, pouring, and colour mixing. All using their great communication skills we even made up a song.

Eeewwwy , goooooey, glooopy gloop.

Sticky, slippery, slimy gloop.

All over our hands!

It's pretty mesmerising to watch it turn from liquid to solid.

What a fun mess!

In the afternoon we enjoyed the clean up together, all helping and taking great turns  to wash the equipment. Great caring for our things tamariki!! Thank you.

Alphabet Antics

We practised our alphabet in a fun way with our little lego men. Everyone picked a character that they wanted to use as a playing piece and placed it on their board. They rolled the dice and moved the squares the corrrect amount. Once landed on an alphabet, we all had to come up with the sound that letter made and other words that made the same sound.
What super counting and letter recognition. It was great to have our friends all help each other out and to use our super duplo men in a different way! We will be sure to play this again.

Magical Mermaids and Mermen

Mermaids splashed and laughed in the sandpit last week.

First there was one, then two then 5.

Aria mermaid was the first to want to become a mermaid, she  sat still as ever as her transformation began. Ted Merman wiggled and jiggled and wondered why his tail kept 'crashing'

Claudia was super busy, flattening everyone's tails until they looked just right.

Ted Merman wiggled and jiggled and wondered why his tail kept 'crashing', not to worry, he was made into a merman many times as he kept coming back for more!

Ava S  made everyone else into a mermaid before transforming herself, what a kind act!

Ava G made special mermaid pets, fish for our friends.

Leo K added special details to her tail, making special imprints with a circle. How creative.

The Evil Seawitch created a potion and the sea changed colour. EEEK! Our poor mermaids faced a problem and how were they going to be saved... they needed to come up with a plan and fast!

The mermaids devised a plan to use more potion against the evil plans. Leo had a special container that held just what we needed to turn the sea back to normal again.

What incredible collaboration, communication and  creativity ! Kapai Mermaids and Mermen!

Getting Arty

The characters were out but the scene was not set. The tamariki took great delight doing experimental painting with the rolling pins, as they splattered the colours onto the paper with teaspoons, before rolling and smooshing it in. What beautiful art it created, but there was more to add. Characters from our stories needed to be added into our art which became their lands. To finish it off we stamped glittery green and silver circles over our lands for a touch of magic.

The children got creative and told stories about their lands and pictures. What a way to inspire their creative minds.

I love our new wall art!

The Uxbridge Supermarket

The tamariki just love going to the supermarket and have turned our little shop into a supermarket of their own. We have used real food boxes and our wooden fruit and vegetable to recreate and set the scene.

"Can I please have some eggs/" asked Daniel and Austin the shop keeper rushed to get them.

"Here is $20.00 said Daniel and Austin took the money and gave him some change.

The children are using their prior knowledge and experiences to add to their play as they imitate what would happen in  a real supermarket. Each taking to different roles of being the shop keeper or the shopper. Choosing their food, paying the money and giving the change. The shop keeper gets to use the cash register and talk into the shop speaker.

Some of the children even cut up some supermarket flyers to make their own shopping lists too.

This is a great way to to be creative and expressive and use our imaginations through role play while also adding in literacy, numeracy and social skills.

Pink Shirt Day

Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora

Together we wore Pink to stand untied against Bullying! We shared korero about kindness and how we treat others. We spread this message with stories, waiata and art. We made some beautiful Kindness frames, friendship necklaces and shared how we are kind to others. What a day filled with kindness and aroha!
