The postie delivers our pictures

Email from Maya

Hi everyone , Thanks for the lovely surprise from the kids at Uxbridge, delivered to my letterbox from the postie ! The drawings and photo are really cool.

Miss you guys a lot.

I went to the hospital today and got a new leg cast, it is bright purple.

Talk soon

Maya

We were excited to receive the above email from Maya! We thought she might like a nice surprise after her foot operation. We drew pictures and some of us did our writing. We walked up to the  Paper Plus store. Our special pieces of paper were put in an envelope, and we put it in a special post box. We knew the postie would make sure it got to Maya's letter box...that's their job! It took five days. It is nice to think of others and we hope the surprise made Maya feel happy.  We are looking forward to our beloved teacher returning when her foot is better. A big thank you to the postie people, who deliver all the mail!

The Kindness Project - From Mellon's Bay School

What a wonderful act of kindness from students at Mellons Bay School, the year 3 and 4 students.  They designed jigsaw puzzles to give to local prechoolers and how lucky were we to be the lucky recipients.  It brought a smile to our faces and we really enjoyed our gifts.  What a wonderful organisation  Youth Project Z is to initiate these projects to promote and instill  kindness in the community.

Thank you to the Howick club also for supporting and helping fund this activity.

We are Sculptors

 We are Sculptors

As we explore 'all jobs are important' we have been looking at the job of an Artist.  Art can be found in many places in our community and comes in many different mediums.  As part of our Artist exploration we became sculptors for the day.  Using loose parts we created sculptures made of many layers and parts.
As we explore the clay we experiment with the different effects we can create, making different textures on the surface and manipulating its shape through actions such as poking, pulling, rolling, pinching and squeezing. We also discovered that clay is a great material for holding other materials upright.
Children construct knowledge through interactions between their own ideas and experiences in the physical world.  Through sculpture they are able to explore their ideas creatively in a three-dimensional format.

We are developing our spatial understandings and an awareness of two and three dimensional objects through fitting together, rearranging and reshaping objects and materials. (Te Whariki, Exploration)

Our new Trampoline

Our new Trampoline

We were so excited when the courier dropped off a big box for us today! Deanne opened it up to reveal what was inside—a black mat with springs, some poles, and metal legs all wrapped in bubble wrap.

“It’s a trampoline!” the children exclaimed enthusiastically. But… we had to build it first! With Danni’s help reading the instructions, we all worked together to assemble it. First, we slid in the safety ‘pins’ to stop the trampoline from folding while in use. Then, we carefully screwed on each leg, making sure everything was secure. Finally, we clicked the handlebar pieces into place.

Now it was time to test it out! We found a flat, open space outside, and some of our friends took turns jumping on the trampoline to see how it felt.

To finish it off, we stretched the protective cover over the springs so the trampoline was safely assembled and ready for everyone to enjoy.

What an amazing and fun new resource—one that will no doubt bring endless hours of joy, movement, and laughter for all!

Does a chook like a book?

Uxbridge children love having a book read to them! So it was rather lovely when we saw a few of our children reading to our young chickens! Initially the birds were hiding in the part where we can't see them...but the children started to read out loud, in the hope of enticing the chicks out! It worked! The kids did a great job reading stories that they were familiar with, or making up the story, taking their cues from the illustrations. What a fun and thoughtful way to engage in literacy! Later, Teacher Danni joined in. Thanks for keeping our chooks company!
