No flies for our froggy friends!!

We have been in a bit of a dilemma with feeding our frogs as there has been no flies about.  After a visit to animates she suggested breeding our own mealworms for the frogs!  How interesting! The mealworm lifecycle consists of 4 stages: egg, larva (mealworms), pupa and adult beetle.  It's a form of metamorphosis.

Today we set up a new container to give it a go, we have a few beetles and mealworms to start the process "eww creepy" said Hazel "they are so wriggly" said Zac.  We added to the container oats, fruit, the mealworms and beetles. Let's see how we go!  This is going to be interesting to watch.

The frogs seemed quite happy with their new cuisine too, beetles, YUM!

The rainbow fish

Today, the children enjoyed listening to The Rainbow Fish and created their own colourful Rainbow fish artworks. This experience supported early literacy by promoting attentive listening, enhancing story comprehension, and introducing new vocabulary. By combining storytelling with creative art, children were able to connect with the narrative in a meaningful way, express their ideas visually, and build important foundations for reading and writing.

Visit to Gulf Views

There's something rather magical when a very young generation get together with a much older generation. Uxbridge is fortunate to be in walking distance to the local resthome, Gulf Views. It's  sweet seeing the two generations engage. We enjoyed playing some throwing games (knocking the cans over with a beanbag, and throwing the hoops on the rod)
We also did some colouring in together and entertained the residents with a favourite song of ours, "Riding in my little mini car", complete with actions! This song takes us on a journey and includes a motorbike and a plane!
We love going to visit Gulf Views and we know that our visit is highly anticipated, it's good to be a blessing to others.

International Teddy Bears Picnic Day!

What a delightful day we had celebrating International Teddy Bear’s Picnic Day! The children were so excited to bring along their cherished cuddly companions—teddy bears of all shapes and sizes—to join in the fun.

The day was filled with engaging and meaningful activities that supported creativity, coordination, and social interaction. Children participated in a teddy-themed scavenger hunt, practiced their gross motor skills with bean bag games, and explored their imaginations through bear-inspired arts and crafts. The children also helped make delicious cupcakes, each topped with a tiny teddy biscuit—perfect for sharing during our special picnic of course!

To top it all off, the afternoon brought an extra touch of magic with face painting, adding to the festive atmosphere and imaginative play of the day.

Events like this create rich learning opportunities, foster a sense of belonging, and build lasting memories for our tamariki and their teddies alike!

Tanabata 2025

Today we celebrated Tanabata, the Japanese Star festival.  Celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month, it is a time to come together, reflect and share our dreams and aspirations.

We enjoyed listening to the legend of Tanabata which is about Princess Orihime and her love, Hikoboshi who fell in love but were separated by the King.  According to the legend on this one day, they get to meet up in the Milky Way and you can see them represented by the stars Vega and Altair.

It was fun to join in with Japanese traditions by making wishes and sending them up to the stars, these are called Tanzaku and are hung on a bamboo tree.  We also enjoyed decorating some vibrant colourful lanterns with streamers and enjoyed making our own sushi for morning tea.
