ANZAC @ Uxbridge.

This morning the children made some delicious Anzac Slice.  The children are exploring through baking, measuring, mixing, and learning about the difference of liquid and solids.  We watched as the solid butter melted with heat and the dry ingredients combined with the butter changed the consistency of the mixture.

The children got to eat their delicious baking and some chose to take it home in their lunchbox.

In the afternoon we wandered up to Picton street to look at the Poppy Anzac Display on Fencible walk.. the children also noticed there were flags flying on the lamp posts with poppies also on them.  Alot of our children and whanau maybe taking part in the ANZAC service tomorrow.  When we returned we listened to the 'last post' at mat time.

Our Favourite time of the year at Kindy

A few weeks ago we had a very special delivery from "Living eggs company"

The chicken eggs arrived and were placed in the incubator as we watched in anticipation hoping to capture the tap tap tap of a chick trying to hatch.

We have 10 eggs, for the week, the first night they slept over ) 4 hatched and we are excited to see what the week brings. By Friday we had 7 chickens hatched and we kept 4 for kindy.

We are very lucky at Uxbridge to have experienced  this programme for a few years now with the children.  The children and also the teachers are very excited to arrive each morning and check out the incubator.

Watch this space as we explore and help rear these chicks, to then venture outside to the pen when they are old enough and then possibly lay eggs for us before they head off to one of our families farms.

This programme lets the children gain an understanding of a life cycle , experience caring for and nurturing a living creature, extend language and observation skills , and learn hands on.

Easter Party 2025!

We had another wonderful evening celebrating Easter with our Uxbridge Whānau. It was such a special time for our families to come together, connect and enjoy each other's company.  Everyone was full of excitement when the Easter Bunny hopped into the hall and danced along with you all to his special song - what a treat!   The joy was contagious as the Easter  bunny handed out chocolate eggs, bubble wands and warm hugs before hopping back home.   We also got to enjoy some delicious pizza and chips for dinner and had our faces painted too.  Thank you for joining us- it looked like you had an amazing time!

A big congrats as well to our raffle ticket winner Zac and Max McCormick, we hope you enjoy your prize!

Constable Craig comes to visit

How exciting to have a real police officer visit Uxbridge! We all sat down on the mat, rather memerized as he spoke to us about how the police can help us when we are scared or lost,  the importance of wearing our seat belts, and telling our mum and dad not to speed while driving, or using their phone! We were also reminded that if we hear ANY siren while driving, whether it's the police, fire brigade, or ambulance, we need to move out of the way and let them get past fast! Children got to ask questions, and as you can imagine, they wanted to know about catching baddies and putting them in jail! Constable Craig showed us his uniform and his equipment (walkie talkie radio, handcuffs, keys, torch, and police badge in his wallet) The highlight was walking to the car, seeing the flashing lights and hearing the siren. It was really loud!!! Nobody got a fright, we got lots of warning and covered our ears. Each child who attented today will get a picture of themself standing beside the police car (we will put it in their portfolio) It was cool to have our community constable come for a visit. ! Our children have been very interested in different types of jobs, so it was perfect that Constable Craig accepted our invitation to come and share about his job.
