Hula Hoops in Motion

Today, our children were deeply engaged in exploring how things move using hula hoops. They discovered that by rolling the hoops down different heights and slopes, they could make them move in a variety of ways—faster, slower, straight, or curving off to the side.

There was lots of excitement as they experimented with placing the hoops at the top of slides, down hills, and even on flat ground. Some children noticed that the hoops rolled further when the slope was steeper, while others observed that starting from a higher point made the hoops move faster. They began testing their ideas, adjusting angles and positions, and watching closely to see what would happen next.

Through this exploration, the children were developing early scientific thinking. They were engaging with important concepts such as gravity, force, motion, and speed. As they make predictions, test their theories, and reflect on the results, they are building working theories to help them understand how the physical world works.
