Wombat Stew

After reading Wombat Stew, the children were eager to bring the story to life through imaginative play. At our messy play kitchen, we set up an inviting space filled with bowls, spoons, and a variety of natural materials from the outdoor environment. Together, we discussed what might go into our own wombat stew. The children excitedly gathered leaves, mud, twigs, bark, flowers, feathers, and stones to use as ingredients. As they mixed, poured, stirred, and even pounded ingredients with a mortar and pestle, the children became fully immersed in the play. Some narrated their actions as they worked:

“I’m making my one sticky,” said Nico

“Mine has crunchy bark. it’s going to be crunchy stew.” said Wolfie

“I add flowers to make my one smell nice,” said Chelsea

" My stew is going to be gooey,” said Ruby
