We are Sculptors

 We are Sculptors

As we explore 'all jobs are important' we have been looking at the job of an Artist.  Art can be found in many places in our community and comes in many different mediums.  As part of our Artist exploration we became sculptors for the day.  Using loose parts we created sculptures made of many layers and parts.
As we explore the clay we experiment with the different effects we can create, making different textures on the surface and manipulating its shape through actions such as poking, pulling, rolling, pinching and squeezing. We also discovered that clay is a great material for holding other materials upright.
Children construct knowledge through interactions between their own ideas and experiences in the physical world.  Through sculpture they are able to explore their ideas creatively in a three-dimensional format.

We are developing our spatial understandings and an awareness of two and three dimensional objects through fitting together, rearranging and reshaping objects and materials. (Te Whariki, Exploration)
