Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week
Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week
Samoan Language Week is celebrated for one week, starting from the end of May to the beginning of June — the exact date differs annually. This year, it falls on May 26 to June 1. This holiday is celebrated in New Zealand to honor the Samoan culture and language, which is the language of the Samoan Islands — comprising Samoa and the United States territory of American Samoa.
At Uxbridge the children really enjoyed experiencing some unique new art mediums using natural coloured dye, as well as learning about different types of Samoan flowers and designs.
The centre was full of music from the island. The Tamariki had a go at drumming and listening to different beats sitting together at mat time, there was lots of laughter and great rhythm.
There was fale (house) building set up with some provocations that inspired their constructions.
Road Patrollers at Uxbridge
The children have really got into their role play at the moment.
Here are the children who are keeping our roads safe so that we can cross the road, as well as some very serious Police officers.
Watch this space as the children learn more about who in the community are there to help , just like super heroes.
Our Community Constable visit to Uxbridge.
At Uxbridge we have been very interested in getting to know our community. To further extend this interest we had a visit from The Howick community constables and as promised he returned to Uxbridge wanting to see our amazing police cars that we had drawn. As promised the art work was displayed on the wall and the children were very excited to share these through reciprocal conversation and questions. Constable (who is camera shy) commented on all the childrens hard work and detail on each picture, We learnt so much about what the police do and it was so exciting to meet some real police officers. Thanks Howick police station!! Our Community Constable had some time for the children to come and see his police car in the carpark and children were all very excited, We hope to continue this friendship and see you again soon.

Pink Shirt Day 2024!
Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak Up, Stand Together, Stop Bullying!
PINK SHIRT DAY at Uxbridge! Kindness and inclusion goes a long way and bullying is NOT ok!
Together we wore Pink to stand united against Bullying! We had a fabulously PINK DAY! Sharing in korero and the very important message of ways in which we can be kind and treat others.
We made our own pink shirts, had pink paint, pink playdough, pink gloop, everything was pink pink pink! We had fun dancing, playing with one another and sharing in kindness stories. We also thought of ways we can compliment each other, be inclusive and say nice things. What a beautiful day filled with aroha and kindness.
