SPCA - Paw drive

A huge, big THANK YOU from Everyone at Uxbridge and on behalf of the SPCA.

We have had a really successful PAW drive for the SPCA and know they are going to be so pleased and grateful for the efforts we have achieved. We raised $72.00 on our gold coin Paw and received an impressive amount of Dag and Cat food, blankets, newspapers, towels, and other accessories like beds, cages, collar, leads, treats and toys.

Our Animal dress up day was so much fun and was a great way for the children to get involved and learn more about the SPCA. Don’t forget to view these things on our blog and keep up to date on our Facebook page too.

This was a great opportunity to give back to our community and help out such a wonderful organization, teaching the tamariki these values of helping and giving back too.

Cheers Everyone!

Haley and the Uxbridge team.

Hands Alive Puppet Show - The kindness tree reward

We have had some wonderful and thoughtful acts of kindness over the past several weeks and now with our kindness tree in full bloom, we thought it would be a nice idea to celebrate our journey with a puppet show on friendship.  Christine from Hands Alive came in and put on a wonderful show with lots of different puppets. We met a brother and sister who went on a lion hunt and a lion who was only looking for a friend, a turtle who got stuck on his back and needed help and the kind elephant who helped him and a cat that wanted to find out what she was good at. There was also lots of singing, a Grandpa who was looking for his hat, a caterpillar who turned into a butterfly, a friendly dog and many more wonderful characters who all passed on the message that it is important to be kind, friendly and to help others. Our tamariki thoroughly enjoyed the show, getting involved on request and telling the puppets what they should do. Their answers really reflected the learning that we have been doing through the kindness tree experience which was wonderful to see.

Magical Butterflies

This morning Claudia came in with a very special wee friend who was still emerging from it's chrysalis.
Steve, her Dad had found the poor butterfly struggling, they carefully taped the chrysalis up so it was hanging as if it would be on it's own. We mimicked this on our swan plant at Kindy.

It sparked a morning of butterfly books, life cycle fun and of course art!

We painted caterpillars and carefully threaded  pipe cleaners as antennae. Picked some eyes and some even had names.

After that, we talked about how they wriggle around in their chrysalis and emerge as butterflies!
So magical... so of course we had to make some of those too!

Luckily, we had a book on caterpillar and butterfly art so not only did the children do art, but together we read the steps on how to do it and some of our tamariki could even use the pictures to help them know what to do next!

Below are some photos of our morning.

Pink shirt day

Today was Pink Shirt Day where as a community we take a stand against bullying.  It was also a great chance for us to talk with our tamariki about being kind and friendly to others.

We had a fabulously PINK DAY!  Pink paint, pink playdough, pink gloop, everything was pink pink pink!

Thank you for all your donations and supporting this worthy cause!

A visit from the police!

Today we had a visit from Police officers Nick and Jerry, Officer Nick is Blake’s Dad!!

We had a korero with them about how to keep ourselves and everyone safe in the community! They reminded us how to keep safe in the car and how we can remind our Mum’s and Dad’s about car seats, seat belts and not using their phone when driving!
They also told us about how the Police are there to keep everyone safe and to help people so if we ever need help the Police will be there for us – they help lots of children and Mum’s and Dad’s and also look after the elderly or people in trouble.
We learnt a lot about their uniform and even got to try on their hat and feel their hand cuffs and baton. A big thanks to Officer Nick and Officer Jerry for keeping our community safe!!

It's a dino world!

Dinosaurs and volcanoes have been of huge interest at the moment, so we set out to make a dino world with the biggest volcano in the middle.  Ted and his team got busy, there were dino's galore, sand, rocks, shrubs, bridges.......  and together dino world grew and so did the mountain in the middle as more sand got piled on.  The excitement grew, was it going to erupt?  What will the dinosaurs do?  There was lots of imaginary play happening.  "Let's make it explode" says Ted "With red lava".  So we gathered all the ingredients.

What a fun morning of adventures, teamwork and imagination!  I wonder what we might create next?
