Easter Party 2017

Easter Party 2017! on PhotoPeach

Making a river!

We had so much fun as a group being involved with making a ‘shuttle’ and a river, recently  that I thought I would  research on the internet and see if there were any ideas to extend on this .  Also most importantly after this, see if  I could find any volunteers for this project!  Well I need not have worried, at Uxbridge we are well known to be great team workers and it didn’t take long before we had plenty of supportive workers.  The pages that were printed off supported  literacy as I read some of the  processes and children viewed the letters that made up the words, as well as  utilizing the useful pictures .  After the river was dug , which took a lot of  commitment and perseverance.  The tinfoil was laid and a network of different children went to pump water in to the proposed river complex.  It was an awesome idea that a group proposed to fill a large flexible bucket, the avalanche of water that came after the water was tipped was  meet with a rush of collaborative delight.  When the water rushed down the stones, under the bridge and into the newly made river.   When some children went back to the plans to review, several decided to make bridges with spades and pieces of wood.  Gabriel obviously has an eye for detail and noted that there was a duck on the bridge in the plan.  We decided to go for a duck hunt and managed to find a suitable duck , that could go on top of the bridge and also float on the water.   It was  so much fun and I was amazed at the all the different ideas and equipment that the children both sourced themselves and asked for, to complete this idea.  I just wonder what  ideas  children will  come up with when I go away for  my holiday break  on Route 66 next week—I just can’t wait to see and hear all the news when I come back - (Teacher Liz).

A team effort!!

Sometimes it is hard to know , where an idea comes from, but it could have come from a story we read at morning kai?  Reading a book about shuttles?   It could have come from trying out making a sandcastle from the large cone?  However it happened , it was just so much fun and so many of our friends just mucked in and got down and dirty to make this project work!   At first , just Esmond and Isaac started filling the cone with sand and trying with teacher Liz to make a giant cone sand structure.  They say when something doesn’t work , it isn’t a problem—and that is just the way this this happened.  We just decided to try something different and Jacob, Isaac and Esmond were quick to notice this too and the decision was then to fill up the cone from the top instead of the bottom.   Well, that didn’t work either!   Then the water got involved and the sand and yes, the thought was to plaster the sides with this wonderful and messy concoction—and yes this idea seemed to be the answer all along!   I don’t know if a little bird told everyone, but someone  must have because the assistance to what became a project was well just fantastic!!!   Just look at the photos and that will show you what great team players we have at Uxbridge—Awesome Teamwork everyone!!

Saying goodbye to our frogs!

In a heartfelt ceremony today, we said goodbye to our beloved frogs who were very much a part of our Uxbridge family.  May they rest in peace.  A memorial statue has been set up in the garden to remember our frogs xx

Making our Super Hero Capes!!

Recently our children have shown a great interest in super hero play. To extend and follow on this new interest we gave an opportunity for our children to  create some capes. Renee, Kailah and Jack were  deeply involved in this task. There was lots of concentrated work involved as they use the glue gun and also they shared space and resources . The children were able to be creative and expressive as they experimented with ideas and used different materials to make their own personally designed capes. Lets save the world every body!!!!
