A change is as good as a holiday

Tamariki thrive off new challenges and new experiences. Here we are learning to balance and maneuver our bodies, take risks and keep ourselves safe along the way.

The swinging artists

It's fun to discover different ways to be creative and expressive! The children swung their way to create a collaborative master piece.

It's Easter Party Time!!

It was time for our annual Easter Party celebration! This is an event where we all gather for an evening party celebration with our families and teachers. We had been counting the sleeps all week, super excited about the party and the Easter Bunny coming to Uxbridge.  Thankfully the rain stayed away and we all had fun with Easter decorations, colouring and face paint! We shared a yummy dinner of sausage sizzle and hot chips and hunted for laminated eggs. We were all full of excitement when we had a special visit from the Easter bunny who swapped our laminated eggs for a treat bag. Celebrations are a great time for everyone to come together and share fun, conversation and laughter.
Thank you so much for coming along to our Easter celebration!

Making a house for our birds

We have started our project of making a bird house. The children were excited to start this project. They drew the plan, followed the instructions, used their problem solving skills and worked collaboratively to put the pieces together. Finally we painted it and decorated our bird house. It looked awesome. We hope our birds like this new home!

Baking Our Rewena

Even though things don't always go to plan there is still lots of learning to be done. Such has been the case with our Rewena bread. We have had some problems getting our potato starter to work so decided to try a simpler recipe, still using the potato starter but one that takes hours rather than days.
This time it worked and here we are ready to bake our bread.

Sifting and measuring our ingredients was so much fun, then we poured in our potato starter and waited for our bread to prove. Miller was very interested in watching the dough get bigger and bigger.  Unfortunately when we took our bread out of the oven it hadn't  proved enough so wasn't light and fluffy but we have learned from our mistakes and hopefully our bread will be better next time.

Planting our Winter Plants

The days are getting shorter and the mornings cooler which means that it is time to prepare our garden for winter. We had lots of plants that we had grown from seed using our little gardens and they needed to go into the ground but first we had to prepare the soil.

We had a great time digging over the garden and breaking up the big clumps of soil that had formed under the surface.
There was lots of team work involved, we had to share space and work together to make sure all the garden was covered.

Shaan, Louie and Gabriel wanted to have a try with the big spade, they found it tricky by themselves but solved the problem by working as a team.

Gabriel and Shaan are helping to plant our baby plants. This season we have planted some late courgettes, red and green cabbages, silver beet, celery, cress, rocket and butternut squash.

Welcome Laura!!

So nice to have a friendly and familiar face with us teaching!!  Everyone snuggled up for a story! The children loved having Laura here and so did we, though they did think it a little funny that she was in an Uxbridge tshirt.  We hope you enjoy your first week Laura and welcome to the team x
