The Uxbridge Olympics - Closing Ceremony!!

Today was our medal ceremony, we all stood up on the podium, shook hands with our Olympic representative and received our gold medals and certificates.  Then the closing ceremony began, this was where we stood and sung our National Anthem, it was really cool!
We are very proud of the determination and effort shown by all our athletes in our 2016 Uxbridge Olympic Games.

The Uxbridge Olympics - Day 10 (20 Metre Dash)

This is the final event on our Olympic Calendar - the 20 metre dash

The traditional Egg and Spoon race had a citrus twist as we added a lemon.

At the end of each race, the athletes shook hands with each other and complemented each other on their efforts.

And from the words of a four year old "I'll be eight the next time we have the Olympics"  (Jacob)

The athletes were very keen to deliver a real show of speed, agility, balance and sportsmanship.

No lemons were harmed during the event (but we did taste them after).

The Uxbridge Olympics - Day 8 (Sailing)

Our sport on day 8 of the Uxbridge Olympics was sailing.  We made sail boats in the morning and had a boat race.  We put them in the water trough and blew them using a straw.  We put all our effort into blowing the boats so they went through the tunnel and racing to the finish line.

Get Firewise!!

We had a visit from Matt the Firefighter.  Matt had seven important messages he wanted us to learn.

1./  Fire is Hot, fast and dangerous
2./  What smoke alarms are, how they sound and what to do when you hear them
3./  The importance of shouting "Fire, Fire"to alert others when there is a fire
4./  In a fire you must Get Out, Stay Out!!
5./  Family needs to chose a safe meeting place outside that you all know
6./  Children should always give matches and lighters to an adult to put in a safe place
7./  The role of a firefighter

Matt suggested one good meeting place was your letterbox.  He read us the Fire Safety book, talking us through all the safety messages.  Then he taught us a new fire action song.  Throughout this session Matt prompted us with clues on how to be safe if there was a fire.

Hear the Smoke Alarm, beep beep beep
Get Out! Stay Out! Well done!
Fire in the house. Hot Hot Hot!
Get Out! Stay Out!  Well Done!
When you know there are flames. Fire Fire!
Get Out! Stay Out! Well Done!
See the fire engine. Safe outside

Get Out! Stay Out! Well Done!

It would be great to discuss your safety plan with your family.  Have a fire drill and practice going to your safe meeting place.  It could be a good opportunity to have a procedure like this for your family fun-time!

I am sure your children will help you with our new fire action song too!!
