Making Sushi

This week Kai's mum Chihiro came along and helped us make our own sushi. We love to cook and bake here at Uxbridge so it was nice to explore making this different cultural cuisine which is a favourite of many of the children here.

Water balloons

The children had been requesting to play with water Balloons for Matariki fun and what a great suggestion this was. We have had two fun days with water balloons where we had to throw the balloons at a target.. we cant wait to do it again.

ORIGAMI

Kai's whanau gave us this great book full of lots of fun paper folding projects.

For our first project we have been folding pac men.  It is a great a great test of our concentration and we needed to get the folds just right to get our pac men to work.  Chris got us drawing on our paper so that each of our pac man were individual.  It is also kept us busy while we waited for our turn to be helped to make the folds.  We started with a square, folded triangles and at one stage we had to turn our work completely over.  Our paper got smaller and smaller as we folded.

Then we had fun opening out and snapping the paper shut with our fingers.

Thank you Chihiro.
We will try more of this fun origami another day.

Transferring water

We completed a science experiment where we wanted to transfer water form one jar to another. We put Blue water in one jar and Yellow water in another jar and left the middle jar empty. We used a paper town to act as a bridge between the coloured water jars and the empty jar. It was fun to watch the water travelling up the paper and many children has a guess what colour water we would end up wih in the middle. This was an experiment full of predictions and trial and error. Our first attempt didn't work as the paper town was to thick so we made the paper thinner and it allowed the water to travel over... and we were very excited to see green water in our empty jar!!!

Water balloon fun!!

When we asked what kind of fun things we could do for Matariki many of the tamariki suggested we could play with water balloons. We have had two fun days with water balloons so far. We had to use our strong arm muscles and hand-eye co-ordination to hit the target and pop the balloons. What a great suggestion everyone!

Mesmerizing milk

This week we did a science experiment with milk, adding dye and dish washing liquid. It was amazing to see the colours swirl together and see how the liquids and colours changed direction when they reacted to the dish wash liquid mixing with them.
