What Can You Make With That Shape

Laid out was an array of shapes of different sizes with black card. Displayed was a shape rocket as an example.
“What do we do here?” Our Tamariki asked.
“Anything you want to do! What can you make with the shapes?” I asked.

A few moment of silence as their brains ticked away and a few of our friends began to pick up some shapes.  I suggested they think a plan of what they would make out the shapes first and lay the shapes out on the paper before they choose to use the glue so they know the shapes make exactly what they want.

“I think I’m going to make a person.” MacKenzie shared her plan and began “I need a body and a head. “ as she began to lay her pieces down Leo came to join in. “ I want to make the sun and the moon with these. “ I know the moon is white but what other colours are there?” He was deep in thought collecting what resources he would need.

Chloe came along and quickly glued her pieces down, “ I’m make a big,strong robot that gets people!” Yikes they did look like robots too!

“ I need a square for my body right here” MacKenzie said as she glued the back of the square down.

Ava G decided that all of this looked quite creative and got stuck in to her own version of a person!

Ava S liked the look of these shapes and choose a different take on the activity, to cut her own shapes out of the black card and glue it to the pink card! Awesome idea Ava!

As always it’s great to see our Tamariki’s brains get to work as they plan and execute their designs. Listening to their oral language skills developing as they work together, question, answer and describe their actions to each other, as they do their art. And just look at the results!
