Saying thank you

It doesn't matter what age we are...it's always important to say thank you!

We decided  to make thank you cards for all the kind people we approached on our walk a few weeks  back (March 7th) We had asked different people what their job was ( optometrist, hairdresser, chemist, and library) We realise that people are busy doing their work but they were very kind to us and told us all about what they do. On our way to deliver the cards we were invited to watch some special Chinese dancing/drumming! The children then got to play the drums themselves. What a cool trip!

Fire fighters come to Visit Kindy!

Today, we had a special visit from the local fire truck and firefighters; Steve, Dougal, Josh and Paul! This was an exciting and valuable learning experience for the children as they have been showing a keen interest in  learning about the different 'jobs' of people in our community.

The Firefighters spoke to us about their important job in keeping people safe, putting out fires, and helping in emergencies. They also taught us about fire safety, including what to do if there is a fire, or if we hear a smoke alarm sound, and how to tell the difference between "toys and tools" i.e. lighters and matches.

Seeing the truck up close was a highlight! The children explored its equipment, learned about the hoses, ladders and lights, and asked lots of great questions. This visit helped us understand the role of firefighters and reinforced important safety messages in a fun and engaging way.

We are so grateful to our local firefighters for taking the time to come and  visit us at Uxbridge.

Out and About

At Uxbridge we are so lucky to have so many interesting locations that we can visit during the week.  Today we spontaneously went for a little wander to the Memorial Garden to see what we could find, as the children have noticed lately that the trees at kindy are loosing their leaves or changing colours.

We noticed some beautiful roses, with loving coloured petals, some shiny leaves, and leaves with holes in them.

On our wander we came across some council workers, and we stopped to chat about what they did for their job.  They we gardeners, and showed us that they had lots of different tools on the back of their truck.

On the way back we stopped into the Art Centre and spoke to the lovely lady at the desk, the children learnt that she worked on the computer her role was called customer service, she is there to help people at the art centre and organise all the visitors.

Volcano Fun in the Sandpit

Team work makes the dream work!
This afternoon we had a great time in our sandpit, constructing a huge volcano.  It took alot of team work and collaboration to work together to ensure it was going to work!.
We had a photo of a huge volcano on our shed, where the teacher exlplained that real volcanoes are formed by layers of ash and lava.  When they  erupt they can create new land.
The children listened in amazement. The children worked very fast to get the job done so that we could take turns to to pour the coloured vinegar into the crater.
During this time the children are exploring working theories through a hands on activity.
