Lonely Maiow

Uxbridge collects for Lonely Miaow

In the last month we have been busy collecting items for Lonely Miaow.  This non profit organization is really in need for cat food, bowls, warm bedding, toys and kitty litter.  This idea linked with our current interest of animals, and how we can help cats that have no homes.

A guide dog comes to visit!

We have been learning about different animals and how they may have an important job to help people.  We met Delilah today who is a 3 year old black Labrador dog and is an Ambassador for 'Blind Low Vision NZ'.  She is trained to help people that cannot see clearly or who are blind.  She started her training as a puppy when she was 8 weeks old.  Having her special job Delilah is allowed everywhere her companion person can go including ,,, trains, planes buses and supermarkets. When the dogs are wearing the coats they know it is not play time, and they have an important job to keep their person safe whilst they are walking.

Samoan Language week 2023

Samoan Language Week 2023

Talofa Lava, Samoan Language Week is a weeklong event which is fantastic an  opportunity to learn about the Samoan culture and language.  We have been incorporating to learn to count in Samoan, experience some different forms of artwork using traditionally Samoan designs.  We have made head bands (seis), using brightly coloured artificial flowers.  The children used dye, and water paints to create their own designs to make a siapo.

We listened to some amazing drumming and different songs in Samoan as well as making Sapasui (noodles with veges) with the children.  They were involved grating the ginger, chopping the onions and noodles and cooking our delicious cuisine in the electric fry pan.  All the children and teachers really enjoyed sitting down and trying the noodles.

3,2,1..... Blastoff!!

There has been lots of rocket play outside as we blast off into outer space. Our imaginations have taken us on some great journeys to interesting planets. Unfortunately we have also encountered a few problems… running out of fuel and even a rocket crash. But not to worry our quick thinking tamariki managed to fix the ship and refuel!

This play is what has sparked our wonderful mixed media rocket art.
