Our tamariki have been super exited to share with one another, jobs they do at home. Aren't they such great helpers! Gardening, cooking, picking fruit, painting, vacuuming, packing away toys, emptying the dishwasher, walking the dog, fixing and concreting, folding the washing....... These are all great life skills to learn. We are growing our understanding that we all have jobs, roles and responsibilities and that we can contribute and help out. Well done tamariki, let's get the mahi done!
Tālofa, susū mai, afio mai, maliu mai! T This week we have been enjoying learning some of the language, songs and stories of one of our Pacific cultures. We looked at where Samoa is in the world and have been exploring different art as we made sea turtle's, flower art, ‘ula and sei’s. We were lucky to also have our own Samoan banquet with Sapasui that the tamariki made, taking part in the chopping, peeling and cooking, practising their culinary skills. It was an eventful week!                              |
Hiding a portable speaker playing piano music in the centre flowers of our art table was intriguing for some of our friends at Uxbridge!
Curious tamariki sat down to explore the keys. Dipping their fingers in paint before painting the keys.
Many asked who was playing the piano which is great that already they can recognise and match sound to instrument!
Other friends chose to paint the keys with cotton tips and had just as much fun.
When the tempo was quicker our friends painted faster and when it was slower they painted slowly!
It is fun to explore music and art in different ways!
We have been talking about how all jobs are important, big and small. We even have jobs at kindy and home!
We are active participants in looking after our centre environment, cleaning, fixing, weeding, planting and looking after our pets. We also show responsibility, looking after our belongings, hanging our bags up and packing our lunchboxes each day.
Taking responsibility for caring for our centre environment, looking after our pets encourages a sense of empowerment and belonging for our Tamariki. They are also developing ways in which they can contribute to being a kaitiaki (guardian) here at Uxbridge. Working as a team to tidy, plant and clean establishes a sense of Mahi Tahi, coming together for a common endeavour.
