Another week with Elfie

Elfie was up to his old tricks this week, the tamariki had lots of fun finding him in his hidden spots each day. One day he was out in the garden and one day he had made himself a hot air balloon. He even hid on our weather chart and changed it to 25th Dec and snowing...silly Elfie. The tamariki changed it back when we did the date.

He brought us lots of fun things to do and enjoy again this week. He started the week off with a fun Pin the hat on the Santa game.

He brought us cool frozen snowflake stickers to make beautiful snowflakes with and on Wednesday he brought us a whole sheets of funny Christmas jokes.

We ended the week with a bunch of lovely flowers he had brought us to make Chrismas floral arrangements and lastly the ingredients to make reindeer food with glitter included so we can sprinkle this on our lawn on Christmas eve and the reindeers can see where to land and have a yummy treat while Santa drops off our presents.

Thanks Elfie...See you next week!

Fire Truck visit

As you may know we have been working hard at our Fire Wise program learning the message "Get Out, Stay Out" in case of a fire. We all know the song and the actions so well and today we had a visit from some real firefighters and their fire engine.  It was so cool, we got to take turns at sitting in the fire truck and then one of the fire men showed us how he gets dressed with all his special clothing and equipment. We even got given stickers. A BIG thanks you to the Howick Fire Brigade for taking the time come and visit us (especially because they had been busy fighting a real fire all morning)

Te Kakano Trip

Today a small group of children and teachers participated in the last Te Kakano trip of the year. The theme of this trip was based around the book The Gift of Mamaku which is written by local author Robina Adamson. This book is set in Howick and mentions some local land marks and even some people that we know like Whaea Taini from the marae. We were lucky enough that Robina was present on this trip.

As is tradition we started this trip at the Marae where we wait to welcome our guests because as part of the Uxbridge complex we are considered to be the hosts. Being a part of this welcome is always a special experience for our tamariki.
Then it was time to share some kai with our guests.
During the kai we were invited to go for a bush walk around which we did we even spotted a Mamaku tree!
The we headed to the Howick Library where we got to hear the story The Gift of Mamaku with the pictures on the big screen. Each tamariki was given a pohutukawa flower so that we could be part of the story.

Many thanks to the Howick Library and to the Matariki Marae for providing such a special experience for our tamariki

The Car Wash

What do you do on a sunny Friday afternoon? Here at Uxbridge we have a car wash. All of our trucks and diggers from the sandpit are looking clean and shiny after we worked together to give them a spruce up!
