Yay!! It's Easter Party Time!!

There was much anticipation in the weeks before our Easter party as we wrote many letters to the Easter bunny and buzzed in the excitement about his upcoming visit to Uxbridge. It certainly was well worth the wait..... The Easter Bunny did not disappoint!! He came full of high fives, hugs, and poses for the photos and brought us a special Easter Bag filled with treats too! There was fun a vibe across the Centre with decorations and face painting and a great sense of togetherness and belonging was felt by all as we had fun and celebrated together as one big Uxbridge Whanau. We shared a yummy dinner of pizza and chippies and raffled off some amazing prizes with the support of the wider community.

We were so fortunate to be able to hold this fun family event again this year!! Thanks to everyone who came along!!

Celebrating Holi the festival of colours!!

Today we were invited to wear our brightest colours to kindy to celebrate "Holi - The Festival of Colours”.  Holi is the most vibrant Indian festival, marking the beginning of spring and also celebrates fertility, colour, love and the triumph of good over evil.

Uxbridge turned into an array of colours with lots of brightly coloured provocations and invitations for us to enjoy.  There was coloured dough, water, threading, sorting, dress up dolls, stickers and a super duper fun bowling alley....with paint!

Colours colours everywhere!!!!!!!

We were also very thankful and lucky to have some wonderful mums (Shruti and Mamta) who could come and join us celebrate this special event.  We had a lesson in cooking Samosa's, some beautiful henna art and tattoo and a wonderful dance performance which we had a chance at learning and performing too.

What a rich fun filled day, sharing, learning and celebrating together.

Fossil Prints

Today we had our real fossil out for inspiration to make fossil prints.  The tamariki explored with clay and shells to make fossil prints of their own. It was facinating to see the different patterns and marks that these natural taongas left.

Kia Ora Andy from the Howick Library!

It has been a while since we have visited the Howick library and so when the phone went and Andy asked if he could come and do story time, we said a BIG "YES PLEASE!"

We started with a song, then a book called Pirana's don't eat banana's (which everyone thought was hillarious) then another book about bums (even funnier) and the funkiest Easter song we have ever heard "Bunny chickaboom"  We did some bunny grooving!  The link to the song to re-share is at the end, enjoy!

Drawing Our Bodies

We look at our bodies in the mirror all the time but what do they look like on paper?

Today we had a go at getting our body outlines drawn then using a mirror to help us to decorate them to look like us.

An interview with Fire fighter Sally

We have been talking and practising our fire drill at Uxbridge, so all the children know what to listen out for, what to do and where to head to our safe meeting place,  Today Fire fighter Sally has a chat with a few friends........

Nadia Lim's fresh start seeded crackers!

Our wonderful chefs are busy in the kitchen cooking up a heatlhy snack for afternoon tea.  Seed crackers, a recipe by Nadia Lim.  Only 4 ingredients needed - 1 pack of seeded cracker mix, 1/4 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup water and a pinch of salt.

First we washed our hands....

In a large bowl we combined all the cracker ingredients

Then each took a turn to stir so it formed a soft dough

We then placed the dough on some baking paper and rolled it out thinly

The crackers then went into the oven for about 25 minutes, untill golden and crispy.  Just in time for afternoon tea.

Thanks to everyone for their good listening, turn-taking and excellent cooking skills!  Our crackers were most delicious with a bit of Lisa's kumara hummus on the side.  Yummy!!
