Linh brought us in a Kumara to grow. This is something we have done before and is a very rewarding process for the children as it grows fast and is a very visual process. The Kumara drinks lots of water and grow big roots into the jar, It grew so many shots and leaves and twisted itself up the window on the window still.
We decided to plant the Kumara in the garden to see if we can grow some Kumara for Matariki.
The tamriki observed and examined the Kumara and the changes it had made since going into the water. They then took turned to dig a hole and Oliver put the Kumara into the hole and we filled it back in with soil. We need to water our Kumara everyday to help it grow.
We have been wanting to the plant the garden for some time so will also plant some more vegetable this week too.
We had lovely korero about how vegetables keep our body healthy and strong so growing them at home and at Kindy is a really good thing to do!
