Te Kakano - Christmas special

It was Te Kakano time! A time for us to go over to the Marae and Library to celebrate and spend time together. This time is a was Hanakoko special which means Santa Claus - a special Christmas celebration.

We stood up the front as hosts of the whenua (the land) and helped welcome the other children from other centre onto the Marae. We then shared in some Christmas waiata and had some morning tea kai together.

Then it was time to head to the library where we sang and danced and heard some wonderful New Zealand Christmas stories. They had some beautiful native bird puppets and even a special visit from Hanakoko (Santa). Santa brought us some lovely balloons and Christmas decorations! Thank you Hanakoko and Merry Christmas - what a fun morning we had.

Our Very Own Elf!

What a surprise we had when we came into kindy on Thursday.

A special parcel, all the way from the North Pole from the big fella himself!

Santa had sent a special Elf to Uxbridge to share in the Christmas Spirit and help us count down for our Advent Calendar!

Well, did you know that he left a special note for us all, and he is from the North Pole, it's cold there and here it was the first day of Summer! A different season for our Elf, he brought us ice blocks to enjoy to help cool us all down. What a lucky treat!

Each day our Elf will be hiding around the centre so make sure you wear your super spying goggles when you come in to spot him! I wonder what else he will have install for us!

A house for the Gingerbread Man

With all the talk of the Gingerbread Man, we decided he needed somewhere to live! Now where would a gingerbread man live?  In a Gingerbread house of course!

We took to the computer to research some super ideas. Everyone had their own favourites ." I like that one with the star!" Cohen said, where Scottie said " I like the one with the lollies."

Well we had to come up with a plan so we coloured in our own designs and printed many ideas off the internet. It was time to create some magic and with the ginger coloured paint we made a spell  "Zibbidy Zabbidy Zouse turn me into a ginger bread house."

The children roared with laughter as the house was completed. Onto cutting and glueing, we had super helpers along the way helping to cut out the windows, add glitter snow and of course add the star at the top!

Next,  we needed some decorations and the children made some bauble M and M's , coloured and cut out Christmas holly, painted swirly lollipops and candy canes! Everything Christmas!  Infact, when you open it's doors it is so warm and cosy I think Santa himself may like to live in it!
