A gingerbread play!

In the last few weeks we have been making character masks for the Gingerbread Man story of which the tamariki have been thoroughly enjoying.

The plan was to stash these beautiful masks away so they can be reused time and time again doing mat time performances of the Gingerbread Man.
Today we decided to give it a shot!

The characters were:
Lachlan- Gingerbread Man
Keelan- Old lady
Chloe A- Piggy
Zoe- Girl
Oliver-Fox

The old lady (Keelan) baked a delicious Gingerbread man but he wanted to get away before being eaten! He visited each character along the way and ran away before meeting Mr Fox ( Oliver). He was coaxed into crossing the river…first on the Fox’s tail, then back, then nose and YUM! The gingerbread man became lunch for the fox!
Our audience members gave a wonderful applause as the characters took their bows!

It’s all about the fun, gaining confidence in front of a group, learning to speak in front of others clearly, using hand and body actions and learning the story through repetition. We will continue to explore ways to perform the Gingerbread Man and know that as we practise more we will be able to add our own creative flair to the story to enhance it!

Super job to our actors and actresses today!!!
