Our children participated in a collaborative project to create a paper mache mountain for a volcanic eruption demonstration. The project progressed through various stages, beginning with building the mountain's structure and then adding layers of paper to form its shape. Once the mountain was dry, the children painted it, bringing it to life with vibrant coloures. By engaging in this long-term project, different groups of children had the opportunity to contribute, developing their own interests and curiosities while utilizing their unique strengths. With their existing enthusiasm for volcanic eruptions, which they explored in the sandpit, they could experience the phenomenon in a new form. This volcanic project engages four primary senses (smell, touch, sight, and hearing), allowing children to learn about chemical reactions and develop working theories about how things work.
