Tanabata 2025

Today we celebrated Tanabata, the Japanese Star festival.  Celebrated on the 7th day of the 7th month, it is a time to come together, reflect and share our dreams and aspirations.

We enjoyed listening to the legend of Tanabata which is about Princess Orihime and her love, Hikoboshi who fell in love but were separated by the King.  According to the legend on this one day, they get to meet up in the Milky Way and you can see them represented by the stars Vega and Altair.

It was fun to join in with Japanese traditions by making wishes and sending them up to the stars, these are called Tanzaku and are hung on a bamboo tree.  We also enjoyed decorating some vibrant colourful lanterns with streamers and enjoyed making our own sushi for morning tea.
