Celebrating Holi!

 Today we were invited to wear our brightest colours to kindy to celebrate "Holi - The Festival of Colours”. Holi is the most vibrant Indian festival, marking the beginning of spring and also celebrates fertility, colour, love and the triumph of good over evil. There was dancing, face painting, we also explored colours by colour mixing, play dough creations, finger painting and creating our own colourful tshirt. It is always so much fun learning and participating in special cultural occasions.

 Seaweek – Kaupapa Moana

This week we participated in Sea Week through lots of discussions about how we connect and care for our oceans.  As Tangaroa (guardian of the sea and the creatures) said in the book we have been reading, If you look after me, I will look after you.  Many of our tamariki shared their ideas around rubbish and pollution. "When we go to the beach, we can take our rubbish home or put it in the bin" said Everly.

We have had a great week exploring the ocean, enjoying lots of stories, songs, water play and art related activities.

Thank you Tim, for visiting Uxbridge today and sharing with the children information about being a News Cameraman a very important job to let the the world know when there is breaking news.  Events such as traffic jams, fires, and things such as the earthquakes a few years back, are just a few places he visits.   Our children got to hold the microphone, and even the very heavy camera and look through the lense. We heard about the different ways of communication that Tim uses to help him get to these jobs on time as well as flying in helicopters to cover the news events.

What's your job?

Today we took the opportunity to visit our village and chat to some of people that worked in the shops.  We were very fortunate that everyone was so friendly and shared with our children what their jobs were.  We visited the library and chatted to Mitchell who wore a lanyard that showed us who  he was and he shared with the children the role of a librarian. Next stop was the Howick Village Optometrist where Frith spoke to the children about the importance of looking after our eyes.  We then ventured to Vivo Hair dressers where we got to explore the salon, and listen to the hair dressers and what their role is, we even saw some customers getting hair washed and stylists. 

On our way walking one of our kindy friends noticed her Nana's shop and of course we had to go and say hello, this was Life Pharmacy where we learnt that is where we can go and get all sorts of things from toys, makeup even your ears pierced as well as medicine when you are feeling unwell. 

A short walk back to kindy, and it was time to head home. 

Once again thanks to all our local shops for making our children's day! 

Our seedlings are growing!

 Wow! It hasn't taken long for these to sprout!  Very soon it will be time to replant in our garden :-)
