Celebrating Diwali 2018!
Today we celebrated Diwali at Uxbridge. Diwali is the five-day festival of lights, celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across the world. Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in the Indian culture. The festival, which coincides with the Hindu New Year, celebrates new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, and light over darkness. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning "rows of lighted lamps”. To mark this event, the children took part in different learning experiences such as rangoli art, henna tattoos, Diwali cards, dance, stories and made lights called diyas. We also made a special drink called “mango lassi” and at lunch time we shared some samosas. This was a great time to learn about different traditions, beliefs, customs and respect and celebrate the differences and appreciate others. Diwali day was so much fun and an educational event for all of us.
