Te Whare o Matariki and the Howick Library invited us to help them host their Te Kākano Matariki celebrations. A number of Playcentres and Child care centres were invited too. As a member of the Uxbridge Rd community, we had the very important responsibility of welcoming the others onto the Marae. We helped Whea Taini sing a welcome song about Matariki, before joining our new friends for some Kai.
Next it was time to move to the Howick Library for some arts and crafts and Matariki stories.
It was a fun morning for Tamariki and Kaiako alike. Getting out into the community allowed our Tamariki to engage with their peers and other adults, which contributes to their understanding of community and their role within it.
