Samoan Language Week

This week we celebrated Samoan language week at Uxbridge. We practiced using Samoan language in greetings and farewells, counting, and singing as well as exploring the culture of Samoa through dance, food and art and craft.

Lachlan was curious about houses in Samoa and teacher Laura explained that in Samoa a house was called a fale. They checked out what a fale looked like on the I-pad and then Lachlan decided to build one with the help of his friends.

Laura then used the Fale as part of a counting game at mat time (counting in Samoan)

We had a go at Samoan clap dancing (Sasa) this was heaps of fun!

Food is an important part of culture so we decided to make some Sapasui (Samoan chop-suey) and then ate it together.

We decorated some traditional Samoan fans.

We also made some Samoan headbands

Threaded some Lei's
