Water Pipe Action

As I looked out into the playground, I saw a hive of activity. The kids were busy at work.

Deanne sat questioning the kids ideas and talking about a plan. I moved closer to investigate just what was going on by the water pump! " You won't believe your head!" Cohen excitedly said as I cam closer!
The tamariki had decided to join the pipes up to see if the water would go through them and across the rocks.
" I want a turn" Austin said as he moved towards the water pump. The children took turns pumping the water pump. It takes quite a bit of strength and our smaller children really need to use their whole bodies to get it going! Down, the water poured as the children watched the stream of water gush through the pipes and...out!
Drats!!!

" Which way did you want the water to go?" Deanne questioned as the children pondered.
"This way!" Chloe said pointing to over the rocks. " I have an idea" she moved a bucket to the end of the pipes and latched it on "Let's see if it catches it?"
Ted wondered what all the action was about and came to see. He was welcomed by Austin " Watch this!" he said to Ted proudly.

This was a great inclusive and collaborative moment where the children worked together to a common goal. They took turns, talked about their ideas, welcomed others in and adapted the ideas as we went. The pipes turned into a water slide for crabs as they transferred the water toys and zoomed them down. They were so respectful of each others ideas and the way the plan changed.

Later on I found Cohen stockpiling the whare. It was getting full. This was his shop.  I heard him talking out loud, " Look at all these, they all have holes, we will sell them."
"I sold lots of stuff, even crabs!"
The game turned into shops where children purchased items from the shop. " I need 100 and then 6." Cohen stated his price and the kids went to find the Uxbridge money.

What a great way to spend the afternoon, in the sun, working together and most importantly having fun!
