Microwave Painting!

All the activities we have at Kindergarten have a purpose.  This activity allows the children to listen for instruction, follow a recipe (process), make their own mixture watching as the mixture changes it’s consistency (science).  They then have to put their creation in the microwave (technology) and push the right microwave buttons in order (10 twice (20) and then start..... Maths and literacy) to cook their creation.  The children have the opportunity to observe the change in state of the mixture they put in.  When the microwave dings, this means that it has finished, it’s time to open the door and check out the results.

What a great way to science, literacy and numeracy!

ANZAC 2022

We will remember them

ANZAC day is a special day that commemorates all New Zealanders and Australians who have fought and died for their country.   The tamariki at Uxbridge have been joining in activities, making the New Zealand flag and painting and making poppies to create a very special artwork display at our front entrance.  We learnt that the red poppy is an international flower of remembrance for the people and the purple poppy is in remembrance of all the animals who helped out and had significant roles in the war.

We have been sharing the messages that Anzac is:

A day when we remember and thank everyone that has helped to look after our country.
It's a day when we say thank you and are grateful that we live in such a great country.
It's a day when we remember that we have to look after everyone that lives in our community, including our older people who helped make it so great.

Anzac biscuits

It was great to share some baking together  - We made some yummy ANZAC biscuits - we shared about how they were made along time so in the war. The children enjoyed following the recipe and making their own cookie and of course  the best part was eating them at lunch.

Planting Poppies

We planted Poppy seeds for ANZAC day - talking about how this is a special flower. We decorated our pots, added the soil blocks and water and at watched as the soil tablets absorbed the water and expanded. Then we added our seeds - we cant wait to see them bloom.

A visit from the Easter Bunny

The Easter bunny has made lots of visits to us this week - teaching us a new Bunny hop dance - he really knows how to shake his tail. The children have been enjoying lots of bunny high fives and cuddles.
