What a busy morning we had today in the sand pit building a dam! A few of our friends noticed that the water was starting to pool by the bottom of the rock river. How do we collect the water and make a lake, we wondered? The initial idea was to dig around where the water was collecting and make a dam to block the water. As we continued to do so, someone noticed a leak in the dam. How could we fix it? Our children came up with so many wonderful ideas. Rylee had a great idea and brought in some bark and twigs to make the dam stronger. “Lots of mud might work,” said Zoe, making mud and patting it around the dam. Austin suggested that patting with the spade works better. Frank had a dump truck full of sand brought in. With everyone's help, we managed to build a strong dam for our lake. Everyone worked as a team to pump the water from the water pump to fill the lake. What a great mahi everyone! A great collaborative project involving a lot of problem-solving, perseverance and developing working theories about how things work.
