Canned Koala!!

Liz brought in a tin can and on the front was a picture of a Koala.  The tin had a lid so it started the discussion of how we could open it?  We tried extra hard with scissors but had no luck!  What could be possibly be in the can?  The children were just so interested and curious as to what could be inside, it was rather exciting, such a mystery and one that we were going to solve!  Ooh such suspense! The children were talking about it for a couple of days about what might be inside and how they were going to open it!  I wonder what will be inside?!!

We had some pretty amazing thoughtful responses from the children on what could possibly be inside and these were some of their answers - a big aeroplane, jelly meat, a snake, a butterfly, a monster, spaghetti, koala food......  The anticipation grew and grew!!  Kailah even said to her mummy at dinner if she could bring her can opener into Kindy so we could open it.  Lucky Liz brought one in from home.

At mat-time, it was finally the big reveal, we had found a tin opener and we were going to open the can!!  Ooh what's going to be inside!!!  We just couldn't wait any longer!!

Everyone stood back, Teacher Deanne was looking worried, should she open it?  YES!!  So she slowly started undoing the tin.....round and round..........until we got to the end, shall she take the lid off??  YES!!!  She squealed as something furry popped out and so quickly put the lid back on.  Then slowly she raised a little of the lid again,  Ahhh she screamed!!  It's got two eyes, a big black nose and furry ears..... Ahhhh!!! and put the lid back down.  We all wanted it opened and were giggling in suspense, so being big and brave once again, we took the lid off AND......  out popped a furry cuddly Koala!!  How funny is that, exactly what it said on the label on the tin!

We passed it around for everyone to give a great big cuddle, what gentle hands and loving arms we had.  Liz said we could keep the cuddly Koala at Kindy, thanks Liz.  I wonder what adventures we might get up to with our new furry friend xx
