Mud Bricks

Over the past 6 weeks the tamariki have been engaged in the process of making our own bricks. First we had to plan what we needed to make the bricks out of so we researched on the ipad, next we made up the mixture. We did this over several days allowing everyone to be involved and also providing us with lots and lots of bricks to build with at the end. We had to pack the mud mixture hard into the molds so no air was inside and wait for a week or so for the bricks to dry. We repeated this process until we had lots of bricks and then they were ready to build with. Some of the bricks were too soft and crumbled so we discussed some reasons to why this may have happened. Many of them were very solid and great for stacking and making into houses. We discovered we could use clay as a glue to hold our bricks together. It was then suggested we build a house of bricks just like in the 3 Little pigs story.
