To celebrate Matariki, we made Manu tukutuku inspired by our book, The seven kites of Matariki. Kites are called Manu tukutuku. Birds are called Manu, and kites fly like birds! Kites had always played an important role in Māori culture, particularly during the winter when they were flown to signify the start of Matariki, the Māori New Year.
