A Fire Truck came to Uxbridge today!!

Rob and Eddie talked us through what we need to do if there is a fire at our house.  If we hear the smoke alarm or see smoke we need to GET LOW and GET OUT.  We all need to have a safe meeting place outside.  The letterbox is a great meeting place (if suitable).

Eddie then started to show the children how they get dressed before they go into a house so they don't get burnt.
The boots and trousers went on first, followed by a material hoodie, then the big heavy jacket.
Eddie showed us the noisy oxygen tank so he doesn't breathe in any smoke.
The tanks looked heavy and were strapped onto his back
Eddie told us that we didn't have to be scared of them in their gear.  All the children went very quiet at this stage.  Then we all had to crawl out under a black sheet (pretend smoke) and go outside to our Assembly Area, then we walked up to the carpark and investigated the fire engine.

Rob showed us all of the equipment under the sliding panels on the side of the truck

Here we all had turns using the fire hose to see if we could hit the target cone.
Firefighter Devin went first.

So much to look at inside the engine.
A big thank you to Dave and the Crew from the Howick fire service.
We even saw the lights flashing as we waved them goodbye.

Today we made our very own shark fins.  We painted them with grey paint and waited patently until they were dry to test them out. Don't they look great and oh so convincing!

A special visitor - Crystal

Amber's family are babysitting a four day old lamb this weekend.  We were extremely excited to have Crystal visit us at Uxbridge.
Crystal was only four days old.

Found near a roadside, the orphaned lamb was taken into care.
Cooper thought it felt "so weird' and 'soft, softy soft'
Part of it's umbilical cord was still attached, so it is bottle fed regularly.
Renee described Crystal as being "soft, and it liked me, it was going to sit on me"
Blake said "it was awesome".

Lila shared that she thought Crystal was 'pretty cute'

In true sheep fashion, it really does follow you everywhere you go, and bleats if it can't see you.

We were surprised at how placid and calm she was with us

Thank you Amber for giving us all the opportunity to see a lamb up close and at such a young age.
