A gardening adventure!!

This week we ventured into the community garden at the Marae with Tiny. Tiny had kindly provided pea, runner beans and broad beans for our tamariki to plant.

We all sat around the new table and filled our jiffy pots with soil using the gloves ! We learnt a sneaky trick because the gloves are both left and right handed so the glove needs to go on the correct hand to be able to get all your fingers in! We placed the gloves out on the table and high 5’d them. If it matches our hand and the thumb was in the right place, then we knew it was going to be on the correct hand! What a sneaky trick!

Our seeds looked so different! Some had spots on them and were brown, the peas looked very wrinkly and small and there were bigger bean seeds. We sorted them and then chose which we each wanted to plant!

First we scooped the soil, put in a little hole and then dropped our seeds in!

We had a few games of eye spy rhyming words too. Something that rhymes with bee and is green! “ Pea” Zac said which was super guessing!!

Our seedlings are sitting in the greenhouse ready to be nurtured into bigger plants to grow up the fence between the centre and the Community garden.

Awesome Mahi and a huge thank you to Tiny
