Exploring Birds Nests!!

Birds nests are such amazing creations and it is surprising how different one can be from another.
Today at Uxbridge we had the chance to have a good look at two different kinds of nests. One of them was a swallows nest that had come from inside Nikki's carport. This nest was small and was made of mud and lined with feathers. The other nest had been blown out of a tree, this nest was much bigger and while it also had feathers it had been made by weaving grass and straw together. We had a great discussion about what the nests were made of and how they were made. We decided that it was amazing that the birds could do this when they didn't have hands! Then we had a go at making our own nests using crayons, glue, feathers, wool, sticks and leaves. What an interesting way to build on our working theories about birds and nests!
