Woodworking

Carpentry is an amazing way to develop our creativity, problem solving skills, fine motor skills and spatial awareness and a quick lesson in understanding cause and effect (or how not to hammer your fingers).

We were fortunate to be given some nails, screws and wood from Rhys O’Brien Builders and we have been putting it all to good use.  In the last couple of weeks we have been hard at work:

Ted hammered two buttons onto his wood

Zac took his safety seriously - glasses, earmuffs and his own way of holding the hammer.

Ava G made a microphone

Riella made a racing car and painted it fully when finished

Josh put four wheels on his truck and contemplated a spare wheel on the top.  Josh also made a sword.

Arden made an aeroplane

Macy added leather and bottle caps then painted her creation – a boat.

Felix used the saw to cut his wood like a pro – seriously Felix, you have great stamina and perseverance.

As I am supervising the budding builders I don't always manage to capture photos however here is what some of our children were working on.

Jono made a car – but not a Ferrari - as asked by his friend.

A car was also on Blake’s mind when he constructed his work.

Taylor and Chloe both enjoyed just hammering in those tricky old nails.

We have a super little handsaw that Chloe was able to use once she had tightened the vice onto her wood.

Daniel added buttons onto his nails that he had previously hammered onto his wood.

Marlo chose to saw some wood and the next day made it into a car.

Odette helped people that wanted to wear earmuffs.

Nova decided to paint her wood yellow, then changed her mind, and then also took the nail out – so her end result looks kind of like her beginning.

Toby enjoyed hammering the most.

Zac liked adding caps to his wood.

Cece used pieces of material on her creation

Hallie painted her car pink when she had finished.

Leo K likes to use the magnet to pick up the stray nails.

Roman sawed some wood then painted it.
