When doing science experiments with children it is ok to not know the answers and to hypothesize and guess together. It is fun to predict what will happen and to guess why things might be happening.

Mesmerizing Milk experiment: Take 2
This morning we tried doing the mesmerizing milk science experiment again but this time we used a cotton bud instead of a cotton ball. We started off using Dye but found it split in the milk as soon as we dropped it in. We changed to food coloring and this sat in the milk a lot better, we discussed why this was happening and decided it might be the weight of the colour or how much water it had in it. We also tried two different dish washing liquids but both had a similar result. We soaked our cotton buds in the dish washing liquid and watched as we pressed it into the colour drops. The colour rushed away from the dish washing liquid. We talked about how the milk is full of fat and water and the dish-washing liquid pushes the fat away from the water. It was neat to see the patterns that it made.
