Yesterday
was the day of the Moon festival. The tamariki made and hung some red lanterns
to mark this celebration here at Uxbridge. We also had Kuan Hai’s Mum, Ping come
in with some Moon cakes for us to see and try. She also had brought in some sticky
rice that the children could scoop out into a bowl and use chopsticks to eat it
with. Some of us had used chopsticks before and for some it was their first
time so it was great to be able to eat with these traditional Chinese utensils.
Ping also stayed for Mat time where we shared stories about the Moon festival
and why it is celebrated. As we have been learning about space, it was interesting
to hear how some other cultures incorporate the moon into their celebration’s.
