In line with our current interest in the Maori Kaitiaki including Tane (kaitiaki of the forest), Papatuanuku (Earth Mother) and Rongo (Kaitiaki of Agriculture) and to celebrate conservation week we decided that it was time to clean out our gardens ready for the new season. This meant that we needed new plants to plant so a trip to the garden centre was in order. A very excited group of tamariki traveled with Deanne and Nikki to Kings Plant Barn in Botany as we had been given a gift card from one of our friends who had gone on to school. We had previously discussed with everybody the kinds of flowers and vegetables that we might like to grow and so had a list of suggestions.
Here we are all ready to shop.
Our shopping list included blueberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, marigolds, watermelon, lettuce and daisies but a few extra items like corn and rock melons ended up finding their way into the trolley
The first place we went when we arrived was to the vegetable seedlings where we quickly ticked off our list. The children looked for the plants we needed using the pictures on the punnet and took turns at choosing which one we should buy.
Then we went and chose some flowers, one marigold each and some pansies and finally some daisies. There was a lot of discussion bout whether to get pink or yellow daisies but pink won the vote on the day
Here we are looking for some broad bean seeds for our vegetable garden.
We took all our purchases to the check out and watched as they were scanned into the computer then it was time to head back to Uxbridge to show our friends what we had bought.
It was most definitely talked about here! Thanks for a lovely community experience - Look at those smiles!
